Snatcher caught

Jorhat, Nov. 27: Sonu Singh, 20, was caught and two others managed to escape on a two-wheeler after snatching a bag containing Rs 1.8 lakh from an employee of a stationery store, Jayanta Narzary, inside Garali branch of UBI today. Singh, who was chased and caught by the bank guards, revealed that the three had come from Maligaon in Guwahati to commit thefts here.

SC order

Guwahati: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked Assam state co-ordinator of NRC, Prateek Hajela, and the government to work out the staff selection process, vendors selection and other official work of NRC by the end of January 2015.

LIC plan

Guwahati: The Guwahati, Jorhat, Bongaigaon and Silchar divisions of Life Insurance Corporation of India have sold 9,836 Jeevan Shagun policies and collected a premium of Rs 54.39 crore. The 90-day plan closes on Saturday.
