Most of the people would support the idea of introducing a uniform dress code in the colleges in order to maintain a sense of decency, but there is something called fashion statement also.

Youngsters like myself, too, want to dress up in the most happening way and they have the right to do so. Of course, a limit should be maintained.

It is very true that some of the students get deviated from their studies when they concentrate more on fashion instead of books. But that depends on the student concerned.

Students who can maintain themselves properly can keep up with their studies, whether they have to follow a dress code or not.

Students spend 12 long years in school by following the strict restrictions and, therefore, it would be unjust to confine them to the same rules and regulations when they reach college.

So, I don?t support the idea of introducing a strict dress code in the colleges of the city. What I prefer is that every youngster should be allowed to dress in his own way, in his own style.

It is hard to understand why all the colleges of the city have not yet started a uniform dress code.

Everyone should be aware of the fact that a college is a place of study where no kind of fashion statement should be allowed.

And once the young college-goers are given a free hand to wear whatever they desire to, time is not far away when every student will come to college to display their wardrobe rather than to study.

Maintenance of a uniform dress code will add to the discipline that is of the utmost importance to maintain an atmosphere conducive to studies in any educational institution. A dress code will also help the students to excel in their studies.

Most of the college-going students are in their teens and this is the phase of life when even small things can divert their attention from their studies. So, if a boy or a girl is busy displaying fashionable clothes, then when will they have the time to study and excel in it?

So, let all the colleges of the city have a uniform dress code so as to build a strong future for our next generation.

I am strongly against the implementation of rules like a uniform dress code in the city colleges. Today the people are debating if there should be a uniform dress code in the colleges. Tomorrow they will ask for uniforms in the university level. Now, what is the logic behind forcing students to wear uniforms when they can exercise their franchise?

Most of the western countries don?t even have uniforms in high schools. But in a city like Guwahati, the college students, too, have to wear uniforms. As most of the college students are matured enough and know what is right and what is wrong, so this kind of rules is meaningless. I don?t think that the students violate any kind of rules and wear indecent dresses.

Enforcement of uniforms in colleges sounds very harsh as people are educated and matured enough to understand the right from wrong. Such kind of enforcement may give rise to some sort of serious rift between the students and teachers.

College life is something that every student looks forward to with great expectation.

College is a place from where one starts the foundation of their future career.

If a college student is capable enough of deciding his or her educational streams, subjects, career moves etc., then why there is so much of a hoopla regarding implementation of dress code in all the colleges of the city?

Isn?t a college student is mature enough to decide what to wear or what not to wear?

Thus I think that it is too immature on our part to even think about introducing uniform for college-going students.

I think each college student is mature enough to decide what to wear.

Colleges and other institutes should have a dress code to maintain its aura and dignity, but not a uniform to make it look like a prison, where all the convicts are forced to wear uniforms to be easily identified from rest of the jail employees.

In the present scenario, studying hard and dressing well goes hand in hand. Dressing good is an important part in enhancing one?s personality and boosting one?s confidence.

And it is only during the days of college where a student along with his or her studies can simultaneously groom himself or herself in their best suited dress.

It is really surprising to see students of many colleges of the city going to their respective colleges in uniform, whereas the best of institutes in India do not have uniform like Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Management.

But in spite of no strict dress code, the students of these elite colleges and institutes deliver good results making the institutes proud of them.

We should try to pay more emphasis on the quality of education imparted to the students. All the colleges should pay due emphasis on their standard of education and infrastructure to bring out quality students and not on uniform.
