NISA blank cops 2-0

MANIPUR LEAGUE

Imphal, Oct. 28: North Imphal Sporting Association blanked Manipur Police Sports Club 2-0 in the 10th Manipur State League, 2015, played at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Playing their last league match, former defending champions NISA came good when it mattered most to collect three crucial points to reach 20 points while Manipur Police were left with eight points from 11 matches.

NISA got the opening goal in style with Kh. Naoton Singh tapping home in the 14th minute off a goal line cross from L. Sanatomba Singh for the lead in the first half. The policemen, who had a poor showing in the league, had ample opportunity to score but wasted it.

In the latter stages of the game, NISA consolidated in injury time when forward Kh. Naoton scored in his second attempt from a free kick for the victory today. NISA player Ksh. Ajit Singh was shown a yellow card.

In another match, Southern Sporting Union held Young Physique Union 1-1.

Ng. Arnold got the lead for Young Physique in the 32nd minute while Md Sahidur Rehman fetched the equaliser for Southern Sporting in the 65th minute to share a point each. Southern Sporting team have 13 points while Young Physique have 12.

Neroca FC, who have had a dream run in the league, beat Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union by a solitary goal to stand on top with 26 points. Playing their 10th round, Neroca FC got the all-important goal from Ng. Ronald in the 83rd minute to walk away with the victory. Tiddim Road Unique Gamy have 11 points and are yet to play their last league match.

Badminton

Manipur started off on a positive note, beating Arunachal Pradesh 3-1 in the senior team event of the Northeast Inter-State Zone Badminton Championship, 2015, which got under way at MBA Indoor Stadium, DM College campus.

Though Manipur lost the men's singles event to Laa Talar beating L. Unilkumar 21-17, 21-16, the hosts bounced back in the rest of the games to claim it 3-1.

In the women's singles, N. Angita beat Laa Yajum 20-22, 21-12, 22-20 while in the men's doubles event, the pair of W. James and Rk. Chinir beat Jokom Rabiya and Akshay Raito 21-11, 21-17.

In the women's doubles, the pair of N. Purnima and M. Somibala Devi beat Laa Yajum and Pinky Karki 21-19, 18-21, 21-14 for the victory.

The other matches of the senior team saw Assam beat Sikkim 3-0 while Mizoram beat Nagaland 3-0 and Meghalaya beat Tripura 3-2.

Seminar: The department of physical education and sports science, Manipur University, will hold a three-day national seminar on New Challenges of Physical Education and Sports Science in the 21st Century from October 29-31 at Centenary Hall.

Opened: Assam chief secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia inaugurated the 63rd Donic Sitaram Agarwalla Inter-District and State Table Tennis Tournament at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati today.

Judo Day: To mark the birth anniversary of founder of judo, Jigoro Kano, the Assam Judo Council today celebrated World Judo Day at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.
