Agartala, May 26: Outgoing Tripura Governor Lt. Gen. (retd) K.M. Seth has convened a special session of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) on May 30 to officially elect Debabrata Koloi as the chief executive member of the council.
After receiving the letter of resignation tendered by current chief executive member Kripamohan Reang recently, the Governor instructed ADC chairman Hirendra Kumar Tripura to arrange for the session in which nine persons will be sworn in as executive members.
The chief executive officer of the ADC, V. Satyanarayan, has started holding discussions with leaders of different parties represented in the council.
Sources in the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) said though Kripamohan Reang had proved to be an honest administrator, the party leadership had decided to replace him because of his inexperience and lack of political skills.
The change has also been made in view of the ADC election slated for April-May 2005.
The sources said veteran Debabrata Koloi was being reinstated to deal with the ruling Left Front’s mounting pressure on the council to capture control in the next election.
They said Koloi was removed from the post of chief executive member in 2001 because of infighting within the party. However, he enjoys the support of the entire party at present.
The INPT leadership is deeply concerned over the issue of rehabilitating Kripamohan Reang.
Sources said though the party had initially decided to appoint Kripamohan as the new chairman of the ADC to appease the minority Reang tribe, it could not be done as incumbent chairman Hirendra Tripura has refused to resign from his post.
As a result, Kripamohan Reang will have to function as an ordinary member of the ADC for now.
