Guwahati, Dec. 3: Rupankar Nath of India led the tally with five points from six rounds in the 3rd Jugal Kishore Newatia International Open Rating Chess tournament at South Point School here today.
In the sixth round today, Nath got the better of Y.P. Srivastava who shared the second slot along with Debashis Das and Rajib Dhar with 4.5 points each.
Giantkiller Badrilal Nepali of Nepal shared the third place with Himal Gusain, Trailokya Nanda, Anurag Jaiswal, Pritam Singh, Sidhant Mohapatra, Projit Phukan, Laltu Chatterjee, Saurav Roop and Deepak Katiyar with four points each.
Nepali, the 16th seed, who had earlier overwhelmed top seed International Master Atanu Lahiri in the third round, went on to shock fourth seed Himal Gusain in the sixth round today.
Lahiri, who fell sick, today pulled out of the tournament.
