Nalbari maintain lead - All-Assam HS Meet Golaghat second

Guwahati, Dec. 27: Nalbari today added three gold medals to their Day One haul of two in the third all-Assam higher secondary school and junior college sports meet here at the Nehru Stadium.

Amar Boro of Mushalpur Junior College, Nalbari, claimed the first position in the boys? discus with a throw of 34.69 metres. Boro won the shot put gold yesterday.

The other gold medals for the district came through Mina Deka of Kampeeth Junior College when she ran to glory in the girls? 200m and 400m, clocking 27.89 seconds and 1:05.90 minutes.

Kampeeth runner Rabin Baishya bagged the boys? 1,500m gold, clocking 4:21.00 minutes, yesterday.

Apart from the five gold medals, Nalbari bagged an identical number of bronzes to maintain their top position in the leaderboard.

Milan HS School athlete Dharitri Saud, who finished third in the 1,500m yesterday, bagged the 400m bronze today with a timing of 1:09.71 minutes. Safiqul Haque of P.B. Dhir Dutta HS School bagged the boys? 400m bronze (54.25 seconds) and Dulumoni Barman of Kampeeth Junior College won the girls? discus bronze (22.17 metres).

Anupam Das yesterday bagged the long jump bronze (5.97 metres) for Nalbari.

Golaghat, the team champions in the first edition of the meet in 2002, were in the second place with four gold, two silver and a bronze medal.

Esan Pamung of Kamarbandha HS School, who won the girls? shot put gold on Day One, today clinched the discus gold (30.77 metres).

Her schoolmates, Rontu Dutta and Jiten Das, won the first two positions respectively in the boys? 200m. Dutta breasted the tape at 23.57 seconds, followed by Das (23.75 seconds).

Das put behind the 200m loss with victory in the 400m, clocking 52.77 seconds.

Having won a bronze for Golaghat in shot put yesterday, Rekhamani Bora of Bezbaruah HS School took the discus silver today with a throw of 26.52 metres.

Anuj Bora of Betbari HS School, Sivasagar, today claimed the boys? gold in the meet?s newest event, the triple jump, registering 13.74 metres.

Lohit Nath (11.72 m) of Besaria HS School, Sonitpur, and Utpal Das (11.65 m) of Sonapur HS School, Kamrup, took the silver and bronze. Das also came third in the 200m, clocking 23.81 seconds.

Sahidul Islam of F.A. Ahmed Memorial Junior College, Barpeta, won the boys? high jump gold (1.75 metres). He beat Tribeni Barman (1.60 metres) of Basugaon HS School, Kokrajhar, and Brijen Singh (1.55 metres) of Kampur HS School, Nagaon, to the silver and bronze positions.

Dipsikha Talukdar of Assam Railway HS School, Kamrup, won the girls? high jump (1.45 metres), followed by Sundari Brahma (1.35 metres) of Debargaon HS School, Kokrajhar, and Manjeuwara Begum (1.35 metres) of Arya Vidyapeeth School, Kamrup.

Pompa Acharjee of Kalain HS School, Cachar, recorded 4.48 metres to win the girls? long jump. Anjali Konwar of Rameswar HS School, Dibrugarh, and Pallavi Changmai of Silapathar Residential HS School, Dhemaji, finished second and third.
