Guwahati, April 26: Nagaon today made merry on a placid Nehru Stadium turf here to pile up a challenging total of 324 in their first innings on the first day of their two-day Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district cricket tournament elite group super league match against Dibrugarh.

Electing to bat, Nagaon rode a scintillating century by Ranji player Amit Sinha to pile up the respectable total losing all the wickets in 72 overs.

In reply, Dibrugarh, too, cashed in on the advantage of the flat track to be comfortably placed at 61 for one in 30 overs at close this afternoon.

Opener Sinha scored 102 facing 115 balls, off which he hammered 12 boundaries and three towering sixes on a day that witnessed as many as 11 over-boundaries hit by batsmen from either sides.

Yead-in Islam scored 51, slamming five hits to the ropes and four over it, to be the second highest scorer for Nagaon.

Debajit Baruah (41, 4x8), Amjad Ali (37, 4x4, 6x1) and Sadek Imran Choudhury (34, 4x3, 6x2) were the other notable scorers for Nagaon.

Teenaged spinner Deepak Gohain, who made a Ranji Trophy debut followed by Deodhar Trophy debut in a single season earlier this year, was the Dibrugarh wrecker-in-chief with a haul of seven for 81 runs off 24 overs.

Seasoned offie Prasanta Sonowal also chipped in with two for 84.

For Dibrugarh, opener Suraj Chaturvedi scored 34.

He slammed four boundaries and a sixer facing 50 balls.

Utpal Deka and Kalyan Gogoi were at stumps on 19 and six respectively when match was called off for the day. Amit Sinha scalped the only wicket conceding 26 runs.
