Nagaon lift trophy - Sanzow Brahma named Man of the Tournament

Kokrajhar, Feb. 22: Nagaon annexed the RG Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-17) cricket tournament title defeating Guwahati by virtue of a 75-run first innings lead in the two-day final at Kokrajhar District Sports Association ground here today.

Guwahati resumed their first innings at an overnight 74 for six this morning and were all out for 142.

Amit Singh (26) and Raju Kalita (25) were the notable scorers.

Nagaon had yesterday scored 217 in the first innings.

Nagaon declared their second innings at 220 for nine in 54 overs and Guwahati set a second innings target of 296 runs to chase, were 75 for two in seven overs at the end of play.

For Nagaon, Debajit Das, who scored 72 runs in the first innings, scored 57 today while Debajit Baruah scored 52 to be named Man of the Tournament.

Sanzow Brahma scored 31 and Romario Sharma 27 for Guwahati in their second essay.

Electing to bat first yesterday, the Nagaon boys lost wickets at regular intervals but managed to maintain the tempo.

Romario Sharma was the pick of the Guwahati bowlers, having hauled five for 46 off 21.3 overs.

Bodoland Territorial Council executive member Mano Kumar Brahma and Assam Cricket Association vice-president A.G. Zaman gave away the prizes.
