Shillong, July 4: A student from Nagaland was the only representative of the Northeast in IIM Shillong’s fourth batch of post-graduate students who were inducted at a function here today.

Kanmingan Phungshok from Phek district of Nagaland was one of the 106 students from across the country who were administered the oath of integrity and discipline by the post-graduate programme chairman, D.K. Agarwal, at the Mayurbhanj complex.

Union Public Service Commission chairman D.P. Agrawal was the chief guest.

In the first batch, there were about three students from Assam.

So far none from Meghalaya have got a chance in the post-graduate course.

Lauding the institute’s director, Ashoke K. Dutta, Agrawal said it was time that the youth learnt to think afresh and take up challenging roles.

He said the candidates made the right choice by becoming part of IIM Shillong as it would provide them with an opportunity to have a comprehensive understanding of the nuances related to developing a business set up and also in fostering partnership in the process. Commending the intelligent use of IT infrastructure by the institute, he said other institutions should follow this footstep.

He asked the institute to continue working towards inclusive growth and strive at ways and means to provide models of efficiency for sectors like agriculture.

Ashoke K. Dutta, the founder-director of IIM Shillong, reminded the new batch of the philosophical foundations of the institute and commented on the equal importance of catering to the needs of the local communities with the quest to achieve the mark of a centre of excellence in management education.

“Students of IIM Shillong must not be afraid to take firm decisions and experiment, and thus innovate,” he said.

The second batch, comprising 66 students, had graduated from the institute in March.

In the first batch, there were 64 students. Currently, there are 93 students in the third batch of the post-graduate course.
