N. Raju, Premila victors by a mile

Imphal, Sept. 23: Marathon runner N. Raju Singh and L. Premila Devi beat their rivals to the finishing line and the men and women’s titles in the 2nd State-Level Lamyanba Hijam Irabot Memorial Open Half-Marathon yesterday.

Raju clocked 1:42.17 hours to cover the 20-km distance, five minutes ahead of H. Sanajaoba Singh. Sanajaoba completed the run in 1:47.16 hours, trailed by K. Naresh Singh, who clocked 1:48.57 hours. Twenty-four male runners competed in the event, organised by the Manipur Youth Organisation.

Among the six women competitors in the half-marathon, Premila was the lone runner to have covered the entire distance from Bishnupur to Kangla Fort. She finished the run in 2:18.21 hours.

The oldest runner, 60-plus Wahengbam Ranjita Devi, was felicitated with gifts.

Wangoi in goal rush

In the inaugural tie of Asian Football Confederation’s Manipur Grassroots School Lea-gue for Imphal West at Mapal Kangjeibung yesterday, Nirmala Rani High School, Wangoi, scored a flurry of goals leaving opponents Don Bosco School, Langjing, little room to change the 13-1 scoreline.

Simultaneously, in Churachandpur, Don Bosco High School held Churachandpur Government High School to a 4-4 draw, while in Kakching, PR English School pipped Practising Junior High School by six goals to five.

In Bishnupur, Gokul Junior High School blanked out Thanga High School by three goals. Thinungei Phubala High School outplayed Mukta High School 5-1 and KT Khogjam fired in three goals against Bishnupur Public School’s only salvo.
