Aizawl: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has slammed the decision to maintain "status quo" on the disputed land, which was made at the chief secretary-level meeting of Assam and Mizoram in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The student union alleged that the decision is likely to have an impact on Mizoram territory.
On Wednesday, the student body convened an executive meeting involving college students' unions and other ethnic students' unions to decide the future course of action and said it will make a massive effort to construct the rest shed at Zophai on the Mizoram-Assam border.
Expressing regret at the decision, the MZP said the Assam government should dismantle all its structures such as schools, police outposts, refugee camps and temples erected along the boundary on or before 15 April if status quo is to be maintained.
The union staged a sit-in near Vanapa hall here on Thursday to protest the alleged assault on students and journalists by Assam police during the border standoff on 8 and 10 March. It alleged that at least 49 people, including 8 journalists were injured in the lathicharge and firing by Assam police.
The MZP also demanded the state government to pass a resolution in the ongoing budget session of the Assembly to ensure that the inner line reserve ((509sq/m) is returned to Mizoram.
