Imphal, May 19: Moral Education Intellectual Renascent and Athletic Association lifted the champions’ title of the 15th State Level Women’s Hockey Championship.

In the final match played at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, Moral Education team defeated SAI RC by 4-2 goals. Moral Education looked champion all the way as they were dominating the game with 3-0 goals halfway through the second half while SAI RC failed to click miserably till the 40th minute of play today.

The Moral players found the opening goal in the 4th of minute of play as Th. Kiranmala Devi flung herself on the turf to tap in a field goal.

With a goal in their kitty, Moral Education Intellectual players increased their raids, putting SAI RC on the backfoot, and found their second goal as K. Aruna Devi fired home a field goal in the 12th minute. In the very next minute, Moral Education made it 3-0 after Th. Kiranmala Devi scored to take the lead in the first half of play.

Resuming in the second half, Moral Education played on a cautious note enjoying the three-goal lead and SAI RC, on the other hand, seemed to collect their wits and picked up pace spearheaded by captain I. Robita Devi, who suffered a lot because of lack of support.

However in the 43rd minute, SAI RC came up with a morale-boosting goal when Robita Devi scored from a penalty corner conversion to reduce the margin to 1-3 goals.

Moral Education women sensing the need to control the resurgent SAI RC found their fourth goal as B. Memtombi Devi found the right angle to tap home from a long free hit ball in the 59th minute of play.

With 1-4 goals down, SAI RC immediately stormed out with vengeance and L. Premika Devi got lucky as she hit home her team’s second goal in the 60th minute.

The remaining 10 minutes proved futile for both teams and SAI had to remain content with the runners-up title today.

The Best Player of the Tournament was given to SAI RC captain I. Robita Devi while Social Library Organisation, Bishnupur, got the Best Discipline trophy. Patsoi Kendra legislator S. Kunjakeshore Singh gave away the trophies to the teams.
