Guwahati: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority conducted its second mock drill in Delhi Public School on Wednesday.

The drill was held in collaboration with District Disaster Management Authority, Kamrup (metro), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response force (SDRF) and Fire & Emergency Services.

Senior government officials were also present at the drive.

"The aim of such a drill is to create a culture of disaster safety in schools. The educational institutes are critical infrastructure entrusted with the responsibility of creating citizens of tomorrow. A safe and secure environment is a pre-requisite for effective teaching and learning. Thus, ensuring safety of children, teachers and staff members during disasters is necessary. Schools have been severely affected by various disasters, both natural and man-made, in the past and hence, these drills are important," ASDMA state project co-ordinator Rajib Baruah said.
