Aizawl: Mizo National Front (MNF) vice-president R. Lalthangliana on Wednesday accused the state government of neglecting Mizoram's territorial integrity.

Launching a scathing attack on the Lal Thanhawla-led Congress government, Lalthangliana said the government did not take any concrete measure to curb the entry of migrants from neighbouring states after the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) final draft by the Assam government on July 30.

Lalthangliana was addressing a political training in south Mizoram's Champhai town. He said the state government remained a mute spectator over the influx at time the neighbouring states were taking massive efforts to protect their lands.

The former education minister expressed apprehension that many of the 40 lakh people whose names have been left out in the NRC final draft list would attempt to enter Mizoram.

He alleged that the government did nothing to protect the state's boundary and check arrival of migrants from Assam.

Lalthangliana accused the government of neglecting the state's security. "The government remained inactive till volunteers of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) stepped out to protect the land," he said.

"It was only after the MZP sent its volunteers to the border areas that the government issued an order and deployed police along the Mizoram-Assam border as a face-saver. But only a few police personnel were guarding the border," he added.

"While the MZP has apprehended more than 200 suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators, the police, who were camping along the border, have not arrested even a single foreigner," Lalthangliana added.

MNF chief Zoramthanga said the party must be voted back to power to protect the state.

Addressing a function here on Wednesday, Zoramthanga blamed the government for allegedly doing nothing to protect the state. "The state government has done nothing to step up vigil after publication of the NRC final draft in Assam. We have to re-establish the MNF government to protect our land," he said.
