Shillong, Aug.18: Two Shillong students lodged a complaint of harassment yesterday after they were threatened in Pune on Thursday night.
Rahul Khongsar, a Class XI student of Pushpa Devi Dugad Junior College located on Pune-Satara Road, and his friend Synsharlang Lymba were warned not to come out of their rooms when they were returning from college to their place of residence at Karve Nagar in Pune.
According to the FIR lodged by the students, an unidentified person stopped them at Dandekar bridge and asked about their identity.
The students said the man asked them whether they were from Assam and even after saying that they were from Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, he continued to harass them.
The FIR also said the unidentified man even tried to force Lymba to smoke a cigarette.
The man also told the students that there would be dire consequences if there were any more attacks on Muslims in Assam.
Senior police inspector Vijaysing Gaikwad from Dattawadi police station, Pune, said over phone today that two students lodged a complaint and investigation was on to trace the person who had threatened them.
“We are ready to give protection to the students,” Gaikwad said.
He also said that the situation is normal and there were no untoward incidents.
