Women participate in a memorial marathon in Imphal on Monday held as part of Nupi Lal Day observed in Manipur.

Chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh, deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, ministers, MLAs and high-ranking officials paid tribute to the brave women who fought against the British at the state-sponsored function at Nupi Lal Memorial complex.

Ibobi Singh said misunderstandings should not be created among various communities living in the state. "Solutions to any existing problems can be brought through dialogue."

Nupi Lal is an unforgettable and one of the important movements led by women of Manipur which has carved out a niche in the history of the state, he added.

The historic events of the two Nupi Lals were enacted as a play during the state function by Joint Artistes of Nupi Lal Memorial Association and Khongjom War Memorial Society.

Artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal, performed in memory of the mothers who struggled for the cause of the state.

In another event, the day was observed by eight women's organisations at Thangmeiband Athletic ground.
