Imphal, Nov. 3: With an aim to achieve cultural integration in the multi-ethnic and multi-lingual society of Manipur, the state art and culture department is giving finishing touches to a new culture policy.

State art and culture minister M. Nara Singh presented a draft policy in this connection here yesterday. Inviting observations and objections from the public, Nara Singh is preparing to finalise the state’s culture policy by the end of this year.

The draft culture policy has proposed to establish a cultural university in the state and cultural centres in every district.

The draft policy was made public yesterday at a news conference by the minister. The state government had earlier formed an advisory committee represented by leaders of all communities living in the state.

The culture policy, however, was drafted by a core committee formed by the advisory committee. Former state Kala Akademi secretary L. Damudor Singh heads the core committee while renowned Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma, Sahitiya Kala Akademi awardee N. Kunjamohan Singh and L. Sadananda are the other members.
