Manipur bag overall team title

Imphal, Feb. 17: Manipur bagged the overall team champion’s title, collecting 54 points, in the IBBF 4th Junior, Master, Physically Challenged National Body-building Championship 2014, which concluded at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium today.

Bengal bagged the runners-up title with 30 points while Andhra Pradesh got the third place with 17 points.

Samiran Nandi of Bengal was the individual winner in the 70kg category, while S. Bungcha Singh of Manipur emerged winner in the 75kg event, N. Suraj Singh of Manipur emerged on top in the above-75kg category and Kundan Kr Gope of Jharkhand in the 55kg, Indranil Maity of Bengal in the 60kg and T. Rama Krishna of Andhra Pradesh in the 65kg bagged the titles .

In the overall junior category, N. Suraj Singh of Manipur beat five competitors for the champion’s title and Rs 1 lakh as prize-money.

Vinod Metri of Karnataka won the best poser title in the junior category.

S. Bungcha Singh of Manipur claimed the most improved body-builder title while N.K. Gojendra of Royal Gym Manipur got the best coach title.

In the masters category, Th. Suraj Singh of Manipur walked away with the overall champions title and Rs 50,000.

In the 40 to 50 years category, Th. Suraj Singh emerged on top.

In the 50-60 years category, P. Doungel of Manipur took the top title and in the above-60 category, Y. Nando Luwang of Manipur claimed the top spot.

In the physically-challenged category, Gopal Saha of Bengal claimed the overall champion’s title, beating S. Vasant Kumar of Karnataka to walk away with Rs 50,000.

Gopal Saha beat three competitors in the above-65kg to emerge on top while S. Vasant Kumar in the below-65kg beat four competitors to claim the top title.

Soccer fest: Tibet walked away with the 1st Spring Ladies Soccer Festival 2014 organised by TBSFA held at Tabungkhok in Imphal West today. Manipur Assembly speaker Th. Lokeshor Singh gave away the prizes.

Coaching programme: The All-Manipur Football Association will conduct a three-month grassroots football coaching programme from February 26.
