Dibrugarh, Dec. 31: Transfers and retirements have led to a considerable drop in number of staff in the Tinsukia division of the Northeast Frontier Railway and this is likely to hit train services severely.
A source told The Telegraph there could be difficulties in train services, particularly to and from Dibrugarh.
The Dibrugarh district committee of the Assam Rail Passengers' Association has expressed dismay at the plight of the Dibrugarh town railway station and demanded its renovation. Ramen Sengupta, the president of the committee, said the station has only one platform as two other platforms are incomplete. The Dibrugarh station is the first station of the Northeast, from where the first goods train steamed off on May 1, 1882.
