Kishore, Bablu rule with twin titles

Hailakandi, Jan. 24: Kishore Das and Bablu Roy clinched double crowns in the three-day Barak Valley badminton tournament that concluded in Silchar on Tuesday.

Kishore Das annexed the under-16 boys’ singles title, outplaying Deep Bhowmick 15-7, 15-12. For the doubles crown, Kishore teamed up with Salman Stuart Faolei to send Swarna Kaushik Debray and Saumyadeep Deb packing 15-12, 15-9.

Bablu Roy defeated Prabir Das 15-10, 15-14 in the final for the veterans’ singles title. He then teamed up with Amiyanshu Das to lift the veterans’ doubles trophy, making short work of the Gautam Ganguly and Prabir Das pair 15-8, 18-15.

In the under-14 singles, Rajesh Singha survived a tense battle against Saurav Patoa 15-11, 17-14 to clinch the title.

Jagat Jyoti Rajkumar bagged the senior singles crown, dismissing Sagarnil Choudhury 15-2, 15-9.

In the women’s singles final, Deboshmita Dutta stunned Surajit Kaur with a thumping 11-0, 11-1 win.

Former Union minister Kabindra Purkayastha gave away the prizes. The meet was organised by the Barak Valley Badminton Association.
