Guwahati, May 6: The Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APDCL) launched seven automatic electricity bill payment and information kiosks in different parts of the city today.
One of the kiosks was inaugurated by chief secretary V.K. Pipersenia at a function organised by the power utility firm in Dispur.
The facility will also help consumers from 66 other towns, if they are in Guwahati, access their electricity bills and pay the amount.
While these kiosks have been installed at Dispur, Bishnupur, Maligaon, Basistha Chariali, Guwahati Medical College and Hospital in Bhangagarh and Six Mile, another will be installed at Latasil soon.
"The kiosk introduced by the APDCL will help the people pay their electricity bills in a hassle-free manner. While many people use the Internet to pay their bills online, there are many others who do not have computers or Internet connection at home. The kiosks will be of great help as they can come and pay their electricity bills here," Pipersenia said.
Through the kiosk, a consumer will be able to access information of the outstanding electricity bill. All one has to do is punch in his consumer number and the amount will be displayed on the screen. However, in the initial stages, consumers will be able to make only cash payments.
"The best aspect of this kiosk is that residents of 66 towns can access their electricity bills by just punching in their consumer number. They can make the payment through the machine and receive their payment slip. In the initial stage, payments will be accepted in cash only. Later, they will be able to pay through cheques too," said P.K. Hazarika, assistant general manager, APDCL.
