Guwahati, Sept. 7: Students from around 60 schools in Kamrup (metro) district will showcase their scientific talent at a district-level children’s science congress here next Sunday.

The daylong science congress to be held at Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya in Noonmati here is part of the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC), 2014 where participants will display science projects on the theme — Understanding Weather and Climate.

Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner M. Angamuthu will inaugurate the event where students will interact with scientists and academicians besides vying for the next level of competition.

National Children’s Science Congress, started in 1993, provides children from 10-17 years from across the country an opportunity to use their scientific temperament and knowledge to make their dreams come true.

The science congress is held annually from December 27 to 31 in New Delhi. After a thorough scrutiny at district and state levels, about 500 children from across the country take part in the five-day deliberations and fun-filled science activities.

“Five to 10 students each from about 60 schools in Kamrup (metro) will take part at the district-level event. Over 70 projects will be exhibited in the event. A few teams will be selected for the state-level science congress which will be held here from October 16 to 19,” said S. Kalita, coordinator of the event.

Scientist Kumud Chandra Bhattacharjya, who was associated with Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), will inaugurate the technical session of the event.

The children will also interact with Bhattacharjya after he delivers a speech on space technology.
