Nagaon, Jan. 30: The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) today urged the government to stop the army from perpetrating atrocities on innocent Karbis in the name of counter-insurgency operations. The students also demanded immediate steps to flush out the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) from the hilly region.

Speaking to newspersons in Diphu today, KSA general secretary Pankaj Teron said during the recent two-day raid in the Assam-Meghalaya border areas from January 25, the army had harassed innocent Karbi villagers deliberately. Teron said during the raid in the two Karbi-dominated villages of New Malidor in Assam and Old Malidor in Meghalaya, the army team had shot dead Honor Durong, a relative of the village head.

The people alleged that two villagers, including the son of the village head, have been missing since the raids. In a release, the KSA alleged stated that both were victims of army atrocities and urged the authorities to release them immediately.
