Though nervous, Barua is happy to have come up with a good film, backed by a strong story and power-packed performances by the lead actors. Apart from Kher, a past master at getting under the skin of any character, the film features a deglamourised Urmila Matondkar. The cast also includes Parvin Dabas, Rajit Kapur, Boman Irani, Sudhir Joshi, Raju Kher, Vishwaas Paandya, Prem Chopra and Waheeda Rehman. The background music of the film is by Bappi Lahiri.

Made with a budget of just over Rs 2 crore, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara is Barua?s most expensive film yet. Kher offered to produce it when Barua went to offer him the lead role two years ago.

?The moment I saw the script (written by Barua), I knew it was different,? Kher told a television channel recently.

Kher could not be contacted. A person who identified himself only as Vijay said from the actor?s office that he was ?very busy with pre-release engagements?.

Barua made his celluloid debut with Aparoopa, which won the best regional film award in 1982. That was followed by Papori in 1986 and Halodhia Choraiye Baodhan Khai the very next year, which fetched him his first major national and international awards.

Hkhagoroloi Bohu Door, released in 1994, again got him the national award (Golden Lotus) for best director in 1995.

and 15 international honours, including a prize at the Chicago International Film Festival and the best director trophy at the International Film Festival of Independent Filmmakers in Brussels.
