Nagaon, Oct. 9: Two injured men, suspected to be Kuki militants, were arrested by Bokajan police from a remote Kuki-dominated slum today.
The two militants who are suspected to be cadres of either the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) or the United Kukigram Defence Army (UKDA) could be the victims of an internal clash among the outfits.
Police arrested the duo and brought them to Diphu civil hospital for treatment.
The militants have been identified as Lalboy Kuki, 19 and Hao Kuki, 25.
They were spotted at Haibong under Dillai police station.
“We suspect they belong to either faction of the Kuki militant outfit,” said superintendent of police, Karbi Anglong, Anurag Agarwal.
According to Karbi Anglong police record, as many as seven Kuki militants were gunned down in the district in internal clashes among them in the past year.
“Actually, the United Kukigram Defence Army is a newly floated organisation and it has five to six local leaders from this hill district. The outfit has rivalry with the KRA which has its stronghold in the district since long. Today’s incident is suspected to be the outcome of that,” said a Karbi Anglong police source.
Agarwal said a search operation was on to track down the other cadres of the two outfits.
“We heard gunshots inside the adjoining forest. This morning we intimated the matter to local Dillai police. Police later spotted the duo,” a local Haibong villager today said.
