Imphal, Oct. 7: Imphal West District Football Association won the 10th Senior Women’s Inter-district football meet today, defeating Imphal East District 3-0 at Polo Ground.

The match, played on a double-leg basis, saw Imphal East District Football Association go all out for the kill as it was a do-or-die situation for them, having lost to Imphal West earlier. But despite their aggressive tactics, a goal eluded the tea.

The Imphal West women got the first goal in the 19th minute, when A. Sakhitombi Devi sent a pass to captain Th. Tababi Devi, who tapped the ball into the net. Nearing half time, Imphal West go a second goal through K. Sandhyarani Devi. The third goal came from the boot of S. Ibeyaima Devi in the 56th minute.

The Imphal West women picked up a cash prize of Rs 5,000, along with the trophy. Runners-up Imphal East received Rs 3,000.

Fencing medals

SAI Special Area Games (SAG) Centre, Imphal, clinched the overall champions’ title, bagging 59 medals in the 2nd All-India SAI Fencing Competition held at SAG Indoor Hall at Khuman Lampak in Imphal.

SAI/SAG Imphal bagged 22 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze medals while SAI Centre of Excellence, Takyel, claimed second position with five each of gold and silver and seven pieces of bronze. SAI Training Centre, Patiala, with four gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals, finished in the third spot.

Junior volleyball: Khaidem Golden Youth Club (KGYC) A team beat the club’s B team to lift the women’s title in the 6th Sub-Junior Volleyball Tournament, at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal today.

In the men’s title, Sunlight Club, Maibam and United Club, Wangoi, were declared joint winners by the organiser.

In the final match, Sunlight won the first two sets 25-16, 25-21 while the next two sets were grabbed by United Club 25-14, 25-16. In a controversial decision, the last deciding set was stopped when each team was on 14 points.
