Guwahati, Oct. 26: Meghalaya player Mark Ingty is awaiting the BCCI’s nod to play for Assam.

The secretary of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, Naba Bhattacharjee, had approached BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan to find out whether pacer Mark Ingty could play for Assam and was assured that chances were high that he would.

The Assam Cricket Association had named Ingty in its 15-member Ranji team to meet Bengal from November 3 with a rider that he would stay in the team only if the BCCI gave the go-ahead.

“Since Meghalaya became an affiliate BCCI member in September, we decided to seek the BCCI’s clearance. We have moved the BCCI and will get an answer by tomorrow,” ACA secretary Bikash Baruah told The Telegraph.

Srinivasan, according to Bhattacharjee, said since Meghalaya was not playing any BCCI meet this season there should be no bar on Ingty from playing for Assam.

“It will at least take us three years to play in the Ranji Trophy. Till then, senior players from Shillong like Mark and Jason Lamare can continue to play if selected,” Bhattacharjee said, thanking the ACA for naming the hardworking medium pacer in the team.

Shillong, he added, would continue to play in the senior inter-district hosted by the ACA.

“Mark played last season in the inter-district matches, so there should not be any problem. At least that is the impression I got from the BCCI,” he added.
