Guwahati, Jan. 18: Gauhati High Court today upheld the conviction of two Ulfa activists by the sessions court for their involvement in the abduction and murder of social worker Sanjoy Ghose in 1997.

After hearing the appeal by convicted Ulfa rebels ? Kania Hazarika and Moni Neog ? a division bench of Justice I.A. Ansari and Justice A. Hazarika said there is absolutely no reason to interfere with the life sentence passed against them.

Both Hazarika and Neog, along with nine others, including Ulfa commander-in-chief Paresh Barua, were chargesheeted by the CBI for abducting Ghose with an intention to kill.

The case was handed over to the CBI on October 10, 1997 and the investigating agency, after interrogating and examining 250 people, filed the chargesheet in 1999. Trial began in 2002.
