Dhubri, Oct. 23: Amra-Ka-Jan, (A few of us), a community Kali Puja organiser of the Railgumti area of Dhubri town, has recreated the Dal Lake of Srinagar on a waterbody, and appealed to all sections of society to maintain communal harmony.

The community Puja organiser, known for putting up a new theme each year, built a huge pandal in the lake near Dhubri railway station, attracting a number of pandal-hoppers.

The president of Amra-Ka-Jan, Sanjoy Ghose, said in order to dedicate this Puja to all communities, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, they decided to replicate Dal Lake with shikaras floating on it.

“A sarba dharma (all religion) temple was also put up there, near the lake to appeal for brotherhood and amity among all sections of people. We want the participation of every person in society,” the secretary of Amra-Ka-Jan, Nirmal Sarkar, said.

The former chairman of the Dhubri Municipal Board, Himabrata Majumdar, who is a patron of Amra-Ka-Jan Kali Puja, said the festival season should be celebrated in unison.

“Our theme’s appeal will be a success if people of all walks of life come together and enjoy the occasion,” Majumdar said.

Altogether, 80 Pujas are being organised under Dhubri police station and 566 across Dhubri district.

Security was tightened in the town and district in view of Kali Puja and Diwali.

Officer-in-charge of Dhubri police station, Manik Kalita, said for smooth celebration of Kali Puja and Diwali, the area under Dhubri police station has been divided into two zones with 13 sectors.

Seven fixed police pickets have been installed.

“Besides this, extra police force will be employed in the highly sensitive areas and big Puja pandals where revellers throng in large numbers,” Kalita said.

The secretary of Sadou Dhubri Puja Samanay Samiti, Kalyan Purakayastha, told The Telegraph that they were actively co-ordinating with Dhubri district administration and the police.

“We are appealing to the community Kali Puja organisers to maintain sanctity and decorum during the celebrations. In view of Chhath Puja after a few days, the Samiti will take up road-cleaning programmes in Dhubri town on October 26,” Purakayastha said.
