Guwahati, March 26: Five promising gymnasts, including National School Games gold medallist Dinesh Chetri of Nagaon, have been selected from the 17th inter-district gymnastics and aerobics championship for advanced training for the 2005 National Games.

Of the five gymnasts, two — Jintu Boro and Seema Basfore of Guwahati — will be sponsored by the Guwahati Gymnastics Association, while the remaining three — Chetri, Alisha Khan (Guwahati) and Puja Bharali of Sivasagar — will get scholarships from the state-level advisory committee for sports and youth affairs. They will be sent for advanced training at the Sports Authority of India centres in Imphal or Patiala.

Guwahati finished on top of the tally in the three-day inter-district competition, which concluded at the Kanaklata indoor stadium here today, winning seven gold, five silver and three bronze medals. Sivasagar, Nagaon and Assam Police also put up a creditable performance.
