Handlers call off strike

The goods handling workers called off their indefinite strike after the Kamrup (metro) district administration brokered an agreement between the workers and Kamrup Chamber of Commerce (KCC) on Friday. he decision was made following a meeting of the workers with KCC office bearers at the deputy commissioner?s office.

IED recovered

Police recovered an improvised explosive device near the entrance to Guwahati Refinery on Friday. A police source said the device was defused by the bomb disposal squad at 3 am.

HC judges

The President has promoted Justice Hirendra Nath Sarma, Justice Brojendra Prasad Katakey, Justice Anima Hazarika, Justice Alokbaran Pal, Justice Maibam Binoykumar Singh and Justice T. Nandakumar Singh as judges of Gauhati High Court.

Film screening

Apurba Kumar Chowdhuri Memorial Committee in association with Assam State Film Finance and Development Corporation has organised a special screening of film Maniram Dewan at Jyoti Chitraban on Sunday.

Two held

Police recovered a stolen Maruti car from Jorabat area on Friday evening and arrested Ayub Khan of Manipur and Abdul Razzaq of Karimganj in this connection. The vehicle was lifted from Matghoria under Noonmati police station.

The 5th biennial conference of the northeastern state committees of All India General Insurance Field Workers? Association was held recently.

Yuva Vikas

The second foundation day of the Yuva Vikas Kendra will be observed on Monday. An open meeting will be held under the presidentship of Dipak Kumar Barthakur and will be attended by former principal secretary of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Durgeswar Sarma.

Telecom meet

A meeting of the telecom advisory committee was held recently under the presidentship of general manager of BSNL, Kamrup, V.K. Mathur.
