The office of the inspector-general of prisons is organising an all-Assam sports and cultural meet for jail inmates from November 21-25. Altogether 250 inmates took part in the trials, which started from Friday at the SAI Newfield complex. he cultural events will be held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra from 5 pm. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the meet. The Guwahati Neurological Research Centre has been awarded ISO 14001:2004 certificate by the British Standards Institute, London. The focus of the certification is environmental protection. The Assam government under the Minimum Wages Act has fixed the minimum rate of wages for workers engaged in pan masala and gutka manufacturing industries in the state. The rate of wages for skilled and clerical workers will be Rs 78 per day. The members of the Agricultural Service Association of Assam will resort to a five-day total non-cooperation from Monday to continue its agitation programme in support of their five-point charter of demands. The four-semester course will be for two years.A youth identified as Pranab Jyoti Nath died after being electrocuted at Narengi Housing Colony under Noonmati police station on Friday.
