Guwahati, Jan. 31: Gauhati Town Club (GTC) annexed the 8th Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge Trophy cricket tournament title defeating hosts Bud Cricket Club by 17 runs in the day/night final at the floodlit Nehru Stadium here last evening.
GTC elected to bat first and were all out for a modest total of 170 runs in 38.3 overs and the Bud batsmen were bowled out for 153 runs in 38.4 overs.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Kunal Saikia topscored for GTC with a breezy 52 off 55 balls; an innings laced with four boundaries and a six.
Shiv Sankar Roy (31, 4x1), Deepak Sharma (29, 4x1) and Pritam Debnath (21, 4x5) were the other notable scorers for the side.
Spinners Gokul Sharma and Tarjinder Singh of Bud took three wickets each while Bichitra Baruah chipped in with two.
For Bud, Abhijit Singha Roy was the topscorer with 41 runs and Sadek Imran Choudhary contributed 29 off 30 balls hitting two fours and a six. Paceman Arup Das of GTC scalped three wickets for 21 runs and Sekharjyoti Barman ended with the figure of two for 19.
Kunal Saikia was adjudged the Man of the Match as well as the Best Wicketkeeper of the tournament and Parvez Aziz of Santipur Athletic Club the Man of the Tournament.
S.S. Roy was named the Best Batsman and Sekharjyoti Barman the Best Bowler. Hirak Jyoti Das of Bud was adjudged the Best Fielder of the tournament.
