Kokrajhar, July 24: Host Gossaigaon stormed into the final of the 32nd sub-junior inter-district football championship under way at Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district.

In the second semi-final played at Gossaigaon College ground today, the home side defeated Bijini 2-1.

Anand Basumatary of Bijini drew first blood in the 33rd minute but the celebrations for his team were short-lived as Gossaigaon boy Suni Hoho found the equaliser in the 39th minute.

Biswajit Swargiary pumped in the matchwinner in the 45th minute to take the score to 2-1.

Gossaigaon will now clash with Udalguri in the final on Saturday. Udalguri defeated Silchar by a solitary goal in the first semi-final on Wednesday.

Sujit Narzary soccer

Host Kokrajhar today defeated Charaideo by 3-0 goals in a group-league match of the Sujit Narzary under-13 inter-district football championship being held at Balajan Tinali ground, says our sports correspondent from Kokrajhar.

N. Goyari scored the first goal in the 18th minute. Milan Basumatary scored two more goals for Kokrajhar in the 45th and 67th minutes.

In another match, Bhergaon dumped Barpeta 2-0. S. Boro and G. Barla were the scorers in the 31st and 35th minutes respectively.

In the third match, Nalbari defeated Jorhat 2-1. At Banargaon field, Goalpara downed Guwahati by 1-0 goals.

In the second match at the same ground, Tezpur defeated Bijini 3-0.

In tomorrow’s matches, Guwahati will play Lakhimpur, Chirang will meet Tinsukia, Baksa will clash with Titabor, Nalbari will play Mangaldoi and Morigaon will take on Udalguri.
