Dibrugarh, March 30: Gordon Higher Secondary School, Nalbari, and Government Higher Secondary School, Karimganj, today reached the quarter-finals of the 2nd Dilip Sarma Memorial under-14 inter-district school cricket tournament.
The Gordon students defeated Hindi English High School (HEHS), Tinsukia, by seven wickets while the boys from Karimganj edged out Deleihi Dhaiali High School, Sivasagar, by two wickets.
In the first match played at the Dibrugarh District Sports Association’s outdoor stadium, the Tinsukia team was asked to bat first. It scored 145 losing all the wickets in 28.4 overs in the 35-overs-a-side match.
Nadis Lari topscored with 42 runs while Amit Singh contributed 19. Among the Gordon bowlers, Anil Basfore, Pranjal Bhatta and Rajdeep Das captured two wickets each. Their team reached the target in 29.3 overs losing only three wickets. Bhatta scored 38 while Basfore pitched in with 30 runs. For the Tinsukia school, Amit Singh and Lari took one wicket each.
In the other match at the Chowkidingee playground, Deleihi Dhaiali High School, Sivasagar, won the toss and elected to bat. The team was bundled out for 121 in 27.5 overs. Agrim Buragohain scored 40. For the Karimganj school, Pramit Sen and Sadique Ahmed Choudhury took three wickets each. The Karimganj team reached the target in 31 overs losing eight wickets. Kishore Das remained unbeaten on 28 while Sen scored 17 runs. For the Sivasagar school, Abhijit Das took two wickets while Arpan Dutta scalped one.
In the two quarter-finals played yesterday, Mohananda Bora Vidya Niketan, Lakhimpur, defeated Sankardev Seminery, Jorhat, by 27 runs while Chitta Ranjan Chakravarty High School, Dibrugarh, defeated Srimanta Sankardev Vidyapith, Titabor, by four wickets.
