Guwahati, May 16: An all-round show by Dipak Roy and solid batting by opener Swadhin Kutum helped Gopal Boro HS School clinch a tight game against Srimanta Sankar Academy in the 14th All Assam Golap Hazarika under-15 inter-school cricket tournament at Dispur parade ground today.

In a match that was curtailed to 15 overs-a-side after rain played spoilsport in the morning, Gopal Boro edged past Srimanta Sankar by seven runs.

Gopal Boro had earlier earned a point each along with Ascent High School after the match that was scheduled for an 8am start had to be abandoned owing to rain.

The second match met with a similar fate with St Francis High School and Ascent High School earning a point each.

Put to bat in the third match, Gopal Boro piled up 149 for six in 15 overs.

Openers Swadhin Kutum (44 off 28 deliveries) and Manoj Thakuria (21) took the bowlers apart, as the latter could not make full use of the moisture in the wicket.

However, it was Dipak Roy’s valuable 32 off just 13 deliveries that made a difference.

Dipak struck as many as four boundaries and three sixes. Zahid Md al Zabir chipped in with 15 runs.

For Sankar, off-spinners Aditya Bharali and Krishnav Kalita took two wickets each, while medium pace bowler Dhritiman Deka bagged one.

In reply, the Sankar batsmen paced their innings well at the outset but faltered towards the later part of the innings.

Sankar could manage 142 for five in 15 overs, falling short of their target (150) by eight runs. Opener Tanuj Kalita, however, stood out as he struck six fours and three sixes in his 65-run cameo.

Abhilash Goswami chipped in with 10. However, the rest could not get to double figures.

For Gopal Boro, offie Dipak Roy bagged one for 16 while Hasinur Rahman and Ranjit Borkotoki also took a wicket each. Dipak was named Man of the Match.
