Aug. 3: Rabindranath Targore’s song, Ekla Chalo Re, has been translated into seven languages of Assam and will be performed as a tribute to Kabiguru in a programme at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on Tuesday.

The Kalakshetra family will pay its tribute to the poet-philosopher.

Tagore, the first Indian to get the Nobel in literature, was born on May 7, 1861.

The song has been translated into Mising, Karbi, Tiwa, Sadri, Bodo, Deori and Assamese and it will be complemented with a dance performance from each of these communities in the hourlong programme.

A workshop has been organised on the Kalakshetra premises to train the artistes from all these communities.

The programme will be held with support from the North East Zone Cultural Centre.

Ekla Chalo Re is one of the famous songs of Rabindranath Tagore and we have decided to include this song in our programme,” Sarodi Saikia, secretary of the Kalakshetra, said.

She added the programme would start at 6.30pm.

Like a bhaona, a xutradhar will play the connecting link between the events of the programme.

“It is a very good idea, of paying tribute to Tagore by different indigenous communities,” a participant said.
