DPS book final berth - South Point batsmen make a mess of run chase, sink to 24-run defeat

Guwahati, Nov. 18: Delhi Public School (DPS) set up a title clash with Srimanta Sankar Academy in the 3rd Iva Bhattacharyya all-Assam inter-school (under-14) cricket tournament, defeating South Point School by 24 runs in the second semi-final at Latasil ground here today.

Electing to bat first, the DPS boys posted a modest total of 113 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs. In their chase, South Point School were restricted to 89 for nine in 20 overs.

Dhrubajeet Kalita with his unbeaten 31, which was laced with three fours and a mammoth six, was the highest scorer for DPS. Hrishikesh Tamuli made a useful contribution of 21, while Sangam Bora scored a cameo 17. The rest of the DPS batsmen failed to make a mark.

Abhinash Terang of South Point scalped three wickets for 17 runs while Deep Karmakar and Abhishek Chakraborty picked up one wicket each.

The Srimanta Sankar batsmen, however, made a mess of the run chase. Priyankar Chakraborty (25), Sahil Jain (15) and Pritam Dey (10 not out) were the only notable scorers for South Point School. Sangam Bora was the DPS demolition man, having notched up three for 10 to claim the Man of the Match title. Hillol Talukdar picked up two wickets for 15 and Rinku Kalita took one for 13.

The final will be played tomorrow.

GSA volleyball

Dispur College will play Pandu College in the final of the Guwahati Sports Association’s inter-college volleyball championship at Judges’ Field Volleyball Complex here tomorrow.

In the two inconsequential league matches played today, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) overcame Pandu College 17-25, 25-22, 18-16 but went down to College of Veterinary Science 16-25, 25-18, 13-15.
