Shillong, June 7: After a season as a Shillong Lajong FC forward, Seiminlen Doungel will be heading for a two-year deal with I-League runners-up Bengaluru FC, an announcement he made last week.
Although confirmed figures are not available, Doungel, a former East Bengal player, was reportedly signed for upwards of Rs 75 lakh, a source informed, which is an astounding sum for the Manipur striker who made 15 appearances for Lajong in the I-League, although rarely as a starter.
It is believed that Bengaluru will try and recoup some of the cost by loaning out their new striker for the Indian Super League.
Len, as he is known to fans, made a number of appearances for North East United FC last season, scoring once.
Bengaluru had reportedly eyed Doungel for the 2014-15 season, but the 21-year-old was picked up by Lajong, which forced BFC to hold on to Sean Rooney, who is now exiting the club.
Another striker from a Shillong club -- Royal Wahingdoh FC's Kim Song Yong - was also signed up by Bengaluru.
Rumours here abounded that Kim and coach Santosh Kashyap did not have the best of relationships. The North Korean scored five goals in Wahingdoh's impressive third place finish to the I-League season.
Doungel's only goal of the 2014-15 I-League came in the very last match.
Brought on as a substitution, the striker produced a memorable finish in the 5-1 mauling of East Bengal just two minutes after taking to the field.
