Guwahati, Oct. 16: Disneyland High School, Guwahati, emerged as the overall champions in the Indian Oil-sponsored 2nd All-Assam School Chess Championship at Tirthanath Sarma Sabhaghar in Chandmari here today.
Another Guwahati school — Shankardev Academy — finished second, while Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya of Guwahati shared the third spot with St Xavier’s School, Duliajan.
Debasish Dutta of Disneyland High School became champion in the queen group. Rajat Rajkhowa of St Xavier’s School, Duliajan, finished second in the same group, followed by two Guwahati boys — Indraneel Talukdar of Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya and Ravikant Tiwari of Happy Montessori School — in the third and fourth spots respectively.
In the knight group, Krishnasis Gogoi of Srimanta Shankarev Academy emerged champions while Mahashewatta Kumar of Vidyaniketan ME School, Mangaldoi, finished runner-up.
Rishideep Bordoloi of DPS, Duliajan, secured third position while Bhaskarjyoti Neog of Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya finished in fourth place.
In the pawn group, Dipu Pradhan of St Peter’s School, Nazira, retained his lead to emerge as the champion. Natasha Dutta of Disneyland School finished second.
Kaibyani Talukdar of Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya and Salim Raja of Victoria English School finished in third and fourth positions respectively.
A few consolation prizes were given to girl participants. Shiangini Bhattacharya of Maria Public School, Guwahati and Shimran Ahmed of Lakshmi Priya Memorial School, Guwahati bagged consolation prizes in the pawn group.
In the knight group, Ananya Gogoi of Demow Adarsh Jatiya Vidyalaya and Tina Choudhury of St Mary’s School, Guwahati got consolation prizes.
Debangona Mohan of Moran Higher Secondary School and Reshmi Dhar of Vidyaniketan High School, Pandu, got the consolation prizes in the queen group.
