Guwahati: Nearly 100 women from Dima Hasao district on Tuesday staged a demonstration near the secretariat here demanding justice for the victims of the police firing at Maibang railway station on January 25.

Around 100 women participated in the demonstration that ended around 2pm.

"We have already submitted a number of memoranda to the state government but did not get any reply. So we staged a daylong peaceful demonstration," Rupali Langthasa, a protester, told The Telegraph.

On January 25, police opened fire on nearly a thousand protesters at Maibang railway station in Dima Hasao district.

Two persons were killed and several injured. The protesters had been demanding an apology from Jagdamba Mall, an RSS activist, who had recently told reporters that the draft plan for the Naga Accord showed Assam's Dima Hasao district as part of Nagalim on a website.

In the demonstration on Tuesday, the protesters demanded immediate disclosure of the Naga framework agreement signed between the Centre and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M) in 2015, and a judicial inquiry against the culprits responsible for the deaths in the police firing. The demonstrators also sought a higher compensation to those who required extensive medical treatment.

Women representatives of Dima Hasao have sought a discussion on the Naga Accord in the Assam Assembly and a resolution stating the stand of the state government against the inclusion of any part of Assam in "greater Nagaland".

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said no part of Assam will be included in the proposed Nagalim.
