Dhubri, Oct. 15: Members of the Dhubri District Sports Association (DSA) recently vowed to develop infrastructure and promote sports activities aimed at involving more youths in various games and events.
They envisaged the completion of a gymnasium, indoor stadium, improvement of the ground condition at Dhubri Sports Complex and organisation of football, cricket and other indoor game tournaments.
Dhubri DSA general secretary Biswanath Saha, who was re-elected, said besides the development of infrastructure for sports activities, the association also organised football, cricket, badminton, volleyball and table tennis tournaments in a phased manner.
“We have planned to organise the football tournament first and have initiated talks with many sponsors, as it requires a huge amount of funds,” Saha said.
He said in the last few years, volleyball, badminton and table tennis competitions were not held regularly.
However, this time, the new DSA body has created new portfolios for volleyball, badminton and table tennis to rejuvenate the games.
Funds were sanctioned for the construction of the Dhubri Sports Complex and gymnasium. However, the association needs funds to complete the indoor stadium, which has been lying incomplete for the last two years.
The newly elected working president of DSA, Tazmul Haque, said in order to improve playing conditions, he had proposed the levelling of the stadium ground and planting of a new species of grass.
Dhubri deputy commissioner Jatindra Lahakar who presided over the general meeting as the chairman, hoped that the new body would discharge its duties well. The Dhubri District Sports Association was formed with 58 members in the governing body and 25 office-bearers last evening.
