Kokrajhar, Oct. 19: Bodo Sahitya Sabha, the apex Bodo literary body, will organise a mass dharna tomorrow in front of Raj Bhavan, Guwahati to protest the non-fulfilment of the long-standing demands of the Sabha pertaining to Bodo-language education.
The Sabha has been asking the government of Assam to resolve the medium crisis, including creation of a separate directorate for Bodo-medium schools, provincialisation of Bodo-medium institutions and “established and recognised schools” in the forest areas and securing land permits from the forest department to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act among the indigenous communities residing in forest areas, appointing teachers and timely distribution of text books.
BSS general secretary Kamalakanta Muchahary said the Assam government has a step-motherly attitude towards Bodo medium because of which “till today the problem” have not been solved and nor does the government care to find a solution. “The problems of Bodo medium have not been solved, much to the concern of students, teachers and guardians who have long been facing difficulties because of negligence,” he said.
“The Assam government has failed to properly implement the Right to Education Act, 2009,” Muchahary said. “There are several schools which are yet be provincialised, get teachers, adequate number of classrooms and infrastructure according to the RTE Act. The government is doing little in implementing the RTE Act fully,” he said and urged the government to solve the Bodo-medium problems, at the earliest.
The Sabha also opined that a “separate directorate” is the only way through which the Bodo-medium problems, including timely distribution of books, can be resolved.
