Deorah, Borooah post big victories - Teams storm into semi-finals with sterling performances

Guwahati, Dec. 1: S.B. Deorah College and B. Borooah College today posted convincing wins in their respective matches to enter the semi-finals of the 2nd Lauhapurush Premoda Kanta Sarma inter-college cricket tournament under way at Latasil ground here.

Deorah College thrashed Guwahati College by 67 runs and B. Borooah College outplayed L.C. Bharali College by 31 runs in the two matches.

Put to bat first, Deorah College piled up 155 for five in the stipulated 20 overs and Guwahati College were bundled out for 88 in 18.1 overs.

Kaushik Kakoti topscored for Deorah College with a breezy 38. Simanta Das and Bikash Chetri of Guwahati College snared two wickets each.

Basisth K. Roy (17) and Tridib Konwar (14) were the notable scorers for Guwahati College. Kang Orang of Deorah College ripped apart the opponent innings with a haul of four for eight.

In the other match, B. Borooah College elected to bat first and posted a modest total of 119 for nine in 20 overs. In reply, the LC Bharali College were restricted to 88 for nine in 20 overs.

In the semi-finals tomorrow, Deorah College will meet Pragjyotish College and B. Borooah will clash with West Guwahati Commerce College.

School cricket

Sarvajanik Hindi High School overcame Indian Public School by three wickets and Adarsh Hindi School tamed Gurukul Grammar School by nine wickets in two matches of the 1st Arup Hazarika inter-school (under-16) cricket tournament at Dispur Parade Ground here today.
