Guwahati: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday asked the deputy commissioners of various districts to take steps for speedy implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (rural) and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna (PMUY).
Reviewing the status of implementation of these two schemes in the state, Sonowal said districts such as Bongaigaon, Cachar, Chirang, Dhubri and Dhemaji have failed to achieve less than 10 per cent of their targets of PMUY.
"Assam cannot lag behind in implementing these two dream projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Deputy commissioners must regularly sit with oil company officials to achieve their targets of providing free LPG connection to women belonging to below poverty line families," he said.
During a video conference with the deputy commissioners, Sonowal said the district administrations and the officials of food and civil supplies departments must hold a weekly meeting with oil company officials.
Reviewing the progress of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (rural), Sonowal observed that geo-tagging of public toilets constructed under the scheme had not been done to the desired level.
He directed the deputy commissioners to take steps to achieve 80 per cent of the geo-tagging targets by November 3 to receive the remaining funds under the scheme from the Centre.
Sonowal also instructed the deputy commissioners to submit utilisation certificates, which must be forwarded to the Centre for the release of the remaining amount.
The deputy commissioners were also asked to take steps for facilitating people willing to donate community toilets at public places. PTI
