Dhubri, Sept. 10: Curfew was relaxed for two hours in Dhubri town from noon to 2pm today, though the situation continued to be tense, police sources said.

Curfew was also relaxed for 12 hours from 6am to 6pm in Bilasipara and Sapatgram and from 11am to 5pm in Gauripur and Golokganj today.

Inspector-general of police (law and order), L.R. Bisnoi, who arrived Dhubri yesterday, visited the vulnerable areas of the town to take stock of the situation.

Bisnoi told The Telegraph that law and order had improved. “Another company of the rapid action force is arriving tomorrow. I hope the situation will be normal in a couple of days,” he added.

The Dhubri district unit of the BJP held a news conference today, where it held the police responsible for the untoward situation in the town, ever since trouble started in the BTAD.

Addressing reporters at the party office, Dhubri district BJP president Bimal Oswal said a number of incidents had taken place but the police had failed to take any action against the culprits.

“The police even could not arrest any persons involved in the murder of Paras Kumar, whose body was recovered near the Gadadhar river on August 11, while innocent persons were arrested in the murder of journalist Rayhanu Naime,” Oswal added.

The vice-president of the party, Deepak Saha, alleged that despite a public FIR lodged against Nauser Ali Choudhury, a councillor of Dhubri zila parishad for his communal speech at Jogomaya ghat on Saturday, the police had not arrested him.
