Agartala, Feb. 28: Intellectuals have expressed concern over the ?crimsonisation? of the school curriculum in the state.
The history textbooks prescribed in schools have raised considerable debate with academicians alleging that the Left Front government is attempting to rewrite the history of the state.
In the newly-introduced syllabus of civics and social study under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), the Marxist movement for literacy launched in the mid-forties of the last century has received extensive and adulatory treatment.
The civics book for Class IV, co-authored by Mihir Tilak Das and Jaya Debbarma, includes a chapter entitled ?Some major events of Tripura?s history?.
It dwells at length on the role of Jana Shiksha Samity (mass literacy committee), led by late chief minister Dasharath Deb and his associates, in spreading literacy among tribals from the year 1945.
In this chapter, the authors pay glowing tributes to the contribution of late Marxist stalwarts Dasharath Deb and his associates Sudhanna Debbarma and Hemanta Debbarma. But no reference is made of Nilmoni Debbarma, who, as CPI activist, belonged to the wrong side of the political spectrum.
Silence over major historical events punctuate the textbook.
Commenting on the contents of the book, former professor of MBB College and leading intellectual Prashanta Bhattacharya said, ?From the book, it appears that history and major political events of Tripura began only after late CPM leaders started their political career.?
