Guwahati, Aug. 1: An online crime monitoring system will replace the manual process of filing guest details in the city’s hotels, guest houses, lodges and clubs from next month.

The city police today said the online system, Crimatrix, was ready and those running hotels and guesthouses would be able to file details by logging onto the website from September 1. “All hotels, guesthouses, lodges and clubs will have to submit guest details online before 8pm daily. The city police will help their staff to be acquainted with the system by August 31,” sources in the police today said.

The order was issued by Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner Ashutosh Agnihotri today.

At present, a manual system is followed and hotel staff have to visit the nearest police station to file the details daily.

Crimatrix, a joint initiative of the crime branch of city police and Glomindz software, a private IT company, was started to make the process less time consuming.

The team is led by additional SP (crime branch) Amitabh Sinha.

Sources said the initiative, taken earlier this year, was speeded up following the July 28 grenade blast at Paltan Bazar. They said chief minister Tarun Gogoi asked the police to step up security arrangements after the blast.

Apart from e-filing the details, the owners of hotels and guesthouses will have to keep hard copies of identity proofs of their guests for three months. They can contact the nearest police station or dial 100 for any assistance regarding Crimatrix,” a source said.

“No manual details will be entertained after September 1 and action will be initiated against those who do not comply with the order,” he added.
