Kohima, Aug. 21: The Congress has rejected the design of the new state emblem of Nagaland and has called the design, a ?DAN (Democratic Alliance of Nagaland) government logo?.

Leader of the Opposition I. Imkong said the Neiphiu Rio government had not sought the governor?s permission before finalising the emblem.

The government recently adopted the new insignia with an encircled mithun (bison) as a symbol. The words ?Unity? and ?Government of Nagaland? have been retained from the earlier version.

Imkong argued that his party did not raise the issue in the Assembly because they did not consider it as a state emblem.

?We will accept this only as a DAN government logo,? he said. Criticising the design, the Congress leader said that the mithun looked ?sickly? while the emblem, as a whole did not show the ?authority and dignity of the people of Nagaland?.
