Tura, July 27: The Tura Municipal Board today launched a weeklong cleaning drive in Tura under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The five-day programme will be initiated in different markets of the town. The officials of the municipal board along with the public took up the cleaning drive at Tura bazaar area today, which received a huge response. The drive began at 6.30am and ended around 8.30am.
"Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, we are sensitising the localities in the town for solid waste management," said Angelice Sangma, nodal officer of the municipal board. A series of programme has been chalked out to sensitise the people on waste minimisation in Tura town, she added.
"We are also touching base with students to impart education on zero littering campaign as well," she said.
After the completion of the cleaning drive in market areas, the municipal board will launch a series of programmes in the localities as well.
On Tuesday, the drive will be held at Nakam Bazaar, on Wednesday at Araimile Bazaar on Thursday at Ringrey Bazaar, on Friday at Chandmary Bazaar and on Saturday at Chitoktak.
